Tomintoul, one of Scotland's highest villages, is set within the Northern slopes of the Cairngorms at a height of approximately 1,132 feet. The village was founded in 1775 by the Duke of Gordon as a designed community to accommodate local crofters and bolster the whisky and cattle sectors. The village has a long high street and a central square.

Part of the Cairngorms Dark Sky Park, Tomintoul provides some incredible night skies. A short drive away is the Lecht Ski Centre. The surrounding hills provide some excellent hill walking and wildlife. Glenlivet Distillery is a 7-mile drive away, offering tours and whisky tastings. Discover Grantown-on-Spey on the banks of the River Spey, known for its salmon fishing. Some 25 miles away, Aviemore is a paradise for nature lovers, with plenty of hill walking, skiing, and mountain biking.
