Inveraray Castle and Gardens, situated on the banks of the River Aray, where it meets Loch Fyne in Argyll and stands as one of Scotland's most renowned Castles.

This impressive Castle serves as the ancestral residence of the Dukes of Argyll, leaders of Clan Campbell. Its remarkable blend of Gothic, Palladian, and Baroque architectural influences makes it a must-see destination for those travelling through Inveraray.

As it exists today, the Castle was commissioned in 1746 by Archibald Campbell, the 3rd Duke of Argyll. It was designed by the distinguished architects Roger Morris and William Adam and constructed to replace an earlier fortification dating back to the 15th century. The construction took more than four decades, culminating in its completion in 1789, approximately 43 years after the initial stone was laid.

Inveraray Castle has been significant in the annals of Scottish history. Symbolising the might and influence of the Campbell Clan during the tumultuous Jacobite rebellions. It has served as the family residence of the Dukes of Argyll for over 250 years and continues to be a vital site of heritage.

Visitors to the Castle can admire its lavish interiors and visit notable rooms such as The grand Armoury Hall and the State Dining Room. It features a collection of historic weaponry, including swords, muskets, and pole-arms. Arranged in intricate patterns on the walls, with an impressive ceiling 21 meters high. The spectacular decoration of the State Dining Room often leaves guests in awe, both on the Castle's ground floor.
