James Craig designed St Andrew Square, which sits at the eastern end of George Street in Edinburgh's New Town. Construction of the Square commenced in 1772 as part of the first phase of the New Town development. Within six years, it emerged as one of Edinburgh's most fashionable residential areas.

The Melville Monument is at the centre of the gardens. A fluted column was erected in memory of Henry Dundas, the first Viscount Melville. Surrounding the monument are the St Andrew Square Gardens, which were redesigned and opened to the public in 2008, transforming the area into a vibrant public space. The Garden now features a Costa Coffee cafe and a network of pathways so you can walk through the Gardens.

In recent years, St Andrew Square has evolved into a dining, shopping and leisure hub. The square hosts various events throughout the year, including ice skating during Edinburgh's Christmas events.

The Square also serves as an important transportation link, with Edinburgh Bus Station located to its east and the St Andrew Square tram stop providing connections to various parts of the city with Edinburgh Trams, including direct routes to Edinburgh Airport. Waverly Station is also just a short walk from the Square.
