The OVO Hydro is one of Glasgow's most iconic modern landmarks and a premier destination for live entertainment in Scotland. Opened in September 2013 with a performance by Rod Stewart, it has since become a cultural hub, hosting a wide array of events from concerts and comedy shows to major sporting events.

Designed by the renowned architectural firm Foster + Partners, the OVO Hydro boasts a distinctive dome-shaped structure. Its façade is made of translucent ETFE cushions, a material originally developed for the space industry, allowing the building to glow at night and provide natural light during the day.

Capacity and Facilities

With a maximum capacity of 14,300, the OVO Hydro is the largest entertainment venue in Scotland. Its state-of-the-art facilities attract international artists and events, helping it build a reputation as one of the busiest arenas globally. Pollstar ranks it among the top 10 busiest venues in the world.

Notable Events at the Hydro

Over the years, the OVO Hydro has hosted an impressive lineup of performers, including Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and many others. With Peter Kay's live show at the OVO Hydro in 2025.

The Hydro made history by hosting WWE's first-ever Premium Live Professional Wrestling Event in Scotland, "Clash at the Castle: Scotland," in June 2024.

Visiting the OVO Hydro

Located on the banks of the River Clyde within the Scottish Event Campus, the OVO Hydro is easily accessible via public transportation, with the Exhibition Centre railway station nearby. The venue offers a range of amenities, including multiple concourse levels, food and beverage concessions, and accessible facilities.

The Scottish Event Campus (SEC) was originally the Queen's Dock, a bustling part of Glasgow's shipbuilding industry. As the city's shipbuilding industry declined, the area was earmarked for redevelopment. In 1985, the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) opened, marking the beginning of the area's regeneration. The SECC was followed by the addition of the SEC Armadillo in 1997, a distinctive venue designed by Foster + Partners. The OVO Hydro broke ground in 2011 and officially opened in 2013.
