Ben Lomond is one of Scotland’s most popular Munros, standing proudly on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Its accessibility, has a well-maintained path, and stunning views make it a favourite for both first-time Munro baggers and seasoned hillwalkers alike.
The most common route up Ben Lomond is the Tourist Path from Rowardennan, which is well-marked and relatively straightforward, making it ideal for less experienced walkers. The climb is steady, with a few steeper sections the closer you get to the summit.
The Ptarmigan Ridge offers a rockier and more rugged return with panoramic views all the way down.
It is important to wear the correct clothing and footwear, with the essential supplies with you, as weather conditions can change quickly, even in summer. While busy on clear days, the route is rewarding year-round, with a snow-capped summit in winter.
At the summit of Ben Lomond, you can enjoy sweeping views over Loch Lomond and its twenty-two islands, with the Arrochar Alps located to the west.
Ben Lomond is accessed from the village of Rowardennan, which you can reach by car along the eastern shore of Loch Lomond from Drymen. The road is narrow and winding in places but clearly signposted. Parking is available at the Forestry Commission, Rowardennan Car Park (charges do apply for parking). The car park gets busy, especially on good days. Travelling by car from Glasgow, it will take just over an hour to reach the car park.
