Starting at the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre is the most popular path, an 11-mile round trip that typically takes 7 to 9 hours to complete. The ascent is a steady climb, with the path becoming steeper and more rugged as you approach the summit. Despite its popularity, the route is challenging and requires a good level of fitness and preparation.

The Carn Mor Dearg Arete is a more adventurous way up the mountain for experienced hill climbers. This route involves climbing Carn Mor Dearg first, then navigating a narrow, rocky ridge before the final ascent up Ben Nevis.

Weather Conditions

Ben Nevis is notorious for its unpredictable weather, especially the closer you get to the top. The summit is clear on average only 14 days a year, often covered in mist and clouds. Temperatures can drop significantly, even in summer, with sudden changes in the weather common the closer you get to the top. Wearing the correct walking gear and having the proper equipment with you is extremely important.
