Campbeltown, situated on the stunning Kintyre Peninsula, is one of the larger towns in Argyll. Nestled on a deep bay sheltered by Davaar Island and the surrounding hills, it offers a picturesque setting with many boats coming and going from the Marina. Davaar Island, visible from Campbeltown, is accessible only at low tide via a mile-long causeway from the mainland.
The drive from Glasgow to Campbeltown, passing through Inverary and Lochgilphead, takes roughly three hours. Campbeltown is located approximately 38 miles south of Tarbert on the A83. It is often considered one of Scotland's most remote mainland towns. However, it serves as an excellent base for exploring the attractions of the scenic Kintyre Peninsula. Campbeltown Airport, situated three miles to the west, offers flights to and from Glasgow Airport using a small passenger aircraft.
One of the main draws to Campbeltown is the renowned Machrihanish Golf Club, which features the famous opening tee shot over the beach and Machrihanish Bay. This Old Tom Morris Links course, set in the dunes, is a must-visit for golf enthusiasts.
