Edinburgh Trams

Edinburgh Trams offer a fast and convenient way to travel through Scotland’s capital, connecting the city centre with Edinburgh Airport and, more recently, the bustling Leith area and waterfront at Newhaven. This modern tram network brings together old and new Edinburgh.

The current Edinburgh Trams line launched in May 2014, following years of planning and development. Initially running from Edinburgh Airport to York Place, the service quickly became popular with commuters and tourists. In June 2023, the line was extended to Newhaven, adding several key stops through Leith and bringing the total number of stops to 23.

The tram is a great way to reach the city centre straight from Edinburgh Airport. Stops like Murrayfield Stadium are ideal for rugby fans, while Princes Street and St Andrew Square are perfect for shopping and sightseeing. Haymarket and Edinburgh Park offer easy connections to rail services, and Leith Walk, Ocean Terminal, and Newhaven provide access to some of the city’s most vibrant districts, including the Royal Yacht Britannia.

With frequent services running every 7–10 minutes during peak times, the trams offer a smooth and reliable way to explore Edinburgh. Before boarding the tram, tickets can be purchased from machines at every stop or via the Edinburgh Trams website. You can also download the Transport for Edinburgh app for mobile ticketing.
