Located within the Cairngorms National Park, Kingussie can be found in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The name Kingussie (pronounced "Kin-yoosie") derives from the Gaelic phrase "Ceann a' Ghiuthsaich," translating to "head of the pine forest," which highlights its deep-rooted connection to the woodlands around Kinguisse.

The Highland Wildlife Park is just a short drive away and is a great way to spend a few hours with the family. This extraordinary park has native and exotic animals, such as Scottish wildcats, snow leopards, and even polar bears.

Overlooking Kingussie, the impressive Ruthven Barracks stands as a remarkable historical site. Today, its ruins provide a window into Scotland's history and offer wonderful views of the surrounding landscape.

Kingussie is also well-known for its shinty, with the local team among Scotland's top shinty teams. If you plan your visit during the shinty season, attending a match can provide an entertaining experience of this traditional Scottish sport.

Kingusse is perfect for discovering the broader Cairngorms area. Aviemore, which is well-known for its skiing, hill walking and beautiful mountain ranges, is only 13 miles away. Additionally, Kingussie is close to Newtonmore, famous for its Highland Folk Museum, which showcases the region's traditional lifestyles. Inverness, the Highland capital, lies about an hour's drive to the north.
