Nairn, located along the breathtaking Moray Firth coastline. A seaside town in the Scottish Highlands known for its golden sandy beaches and Victorian elegance. Nairn's history dates back to its emergence as a vibrant fishing and market hub, later transforming into a favoured seaside resort. It became a Royal Burgh, granted back in the 12th century under the reign of King William the Lion of Scotland.
The town's highlight is its stunning beach, featuring miles of pristine golden sand and spectacular views over the Moray Firth. It is a perfect location for families, walkers, and nature enthusiasts, maybe even seeing a dolphin while enjoying the coastal views. Nairn Harbour was crucial to the town's historical and economic development. Particularly during its prosperous fishing era in the 19th century, when Nairn became famous for its herring catches.
The Harbour has transformed into a quaint and tranquil area, primarily used for recreation rather than commercial fishing. It houses a marina where yachts and small boats dock.
Cawdor Castle and Gardens, a five-star visitor attraction open during the summer months. Just a short drive from Nairn, a Castle that is famously linked to Shakespeare's "Macbeth." The castle's meticulously kept gardens and woodlands provide a peaceful retreat.
The town boasts two excellent golf courses, Nairn Golf Club and Nairn Dunbar Golf Club, catering to golf enthusiasts. Nairn Golf Club earns its reputation as a world-class links course, providing stunning coastal views as its fairways border the coastline. On the opposite side of Nairn lies Nairn Dunbar Golf Club, also a championship links course. The Moray Firth Coast features several remarkable golf courses, including those at Lossiemouth and Castle Stuart.
Located only 18 miles east of Inverness, the capital of the Highlands. An excellent base for exploring the broader area, including the renowned Loch Ness and the historic Culloden Battlefield. The quaint town of Forres, known for its rich history and vibrant floral displays, is also nearby, or you can head further east along the coast towards Elgin and Lossiemouth.
