Pittenweem, in the East Neuk of Fife, Scotland, is a charming fishing village known for its harbour and picturesque coastal setting. The origin of its name comes from the Pictish and Gaelic languages, translating to "place of the cave," which references St. Fillan's Cave, an ancient site linked to the 7th-century missionary St. Fillan. Guests can visit the cave and discover its rich history in Pittenweem.

Pittenweem has functioned as a lively fishing port since medieval times and continues to be one of the most active hubs in the East Neuk, with the harbour being the heart of the village. The harbour, which has existed since the 16th century, serves as the village's focal point, where fishing boats return with their daily catch—the harbour, with its creels, fishing nets and coloured boats, is a site to remember. Pittenweem coastline has houses on the water's edge near the small beach, a magical place to visit.

Pittenweem is also on the scenic Fife Coastal Path, a walking route with stunning coastal views and links to nearby villages such as Anstruther and St Monans. This trail is perfect for strolls and exploration. Seafood lovers will enjoy the fresh local seafood, with The Dory Bistro & Gallery being particularly renowned for its delicious seafood dishes near Pittenweem Harbour.

Located around 3 miles from Pittenweem is Kellie Castle and Gardens, where visitors can tour the castle's interiors and admire its beautifully landscaped gardens. The Scottish Fisheries Museum, found in Anstruther, highlights the historical significance of Scotland's fishing industry through exhibits featuring traditional fishing boats, equipment, and the overall impact on coastal communities.

Pittenweem is best accessed by car, driving from Edinburgh takes around one hour and twenty minutes, while it's about one hour and forty minutes from Glasgow. Local buses provide connections between the coastal villages of Fife. The Fife coast has several other quaint fishing villages; Anstruther, famous for its fish and chips, is just a five-minute drive away, while St Monans can be reached by car or via the Fife Coastal Path. Elie and Crail are also worth exploring during your visit to Pittenweem, with St Andrews, the Home of Golf, only about a thirty-minute drive along the coast.
