The Scott Monument is one of Edinburgh's most striking landmarks, towering over Princes Street Gardens in honour of the famous Scottish writer, Sir Walter Scott. Built in the 19th century, it offers some of the best views of the city, including the stunning sight of Edinburgh Castle.

Sir Walter Scott was one of Scotland's most celebrated novelists, poets, and historians. Following his death in 1832, the Scott Monument was erected in honour of the remarkable Sir Walter Scott. Construction of the Scott Monument began in 1840 and was completed in 1846. It remains one of the largest tributes to a writer anywhere in the world.

Standing at 200 feet, 61 metres tall, the Scott Monument has intricate carvings and statues of characters from Scott's novels. With stunning stained glass windows in the museum room. At its base, visitors can find a seated statue of Sir Walter Scott, sculpted from white Carrara marble by John Steell.

Those willing to take on the 287-step climb up four levels will enjoy breathtaking views across the city. The winding spiral staircase gets narrower the closer you get to the top of the tower! When you reach the top, visitors can admire views of Edinburgh Castle, Arthur's Seat and Edinburgh's New Town.
