Southerness, a small coastal village in Dumfries and Galloway. We first discovered It when playing Southerness Golf Club, and now, after a few visits, we really enjoy visiting this small village, which has a population of only around 800 people.
The holiday park is the main attraction in Southerness and what brings most people to the area. With views of the Solway Firth and Southerness Lighthouse, exploring the beaches and taking coastal walks gives you a peaceful escape.
Southerness Lighthouse, a beacon of history, stands 18 meters tall at the village's point, peering over the Solway Firth. Originally commissioned to guide ships through the Firth to the Nith Estuary, this fascinating landmark is now retired from its duties yet still captivates with its beauty and location.
Southerness Golf Club is a wonderful test of links golf, ranked within the top 50 courses in Scotland, well worth playing if you are in the area.
Dumfries is the closest and largest town to Southerness, it is around a 30 minute drive along the A710 which runs along the Solway Coast passing through the lovely village of New Abbey.
