Spey Bay is a scenic coastal area in Moray, located at the mouth of the River Spey, where it meets the North Sea. The bay is particularly famous for dolphin spotting, with the Moray Firth home to a resident population of bottlenose dolphins.
Visit the Scottish Dolphin Centre, one of the main attractions at Spey Bay. The Scottish Dolphin Centre, run by the Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), offers visitors the chance to learn about marine life conservation while trying to seedolphins from the shore. The centre has interactive displays, guided walks, and a small café onsite.
Aside from dolphins, the area is rich in birdlife, seals, and even otters. The coastal and river habitats mix makes it a prime spot for nature enthusiasts.
The Speyside Way starts or ends at Spey Bay. A walking route that follows the River Spey and offers beautiful walking and cycling trails.
The vast Shingle Beach and River Mouth are an excellent place for a relaxing walk, where you can take in the dramatic meeting of river and sea. The area is also fantastic for photography, particularly at sunrise or sunset.
Spey Bay Golf Course Spey Bay Golf Course, originally designed by Ben Sayers in 1907, is undergoing a significant transformation under new ownership. The renovation project commenced in autumn 2023 and is currently underway.
Elgin, the largest town in Moray, is southwest of Spey Bay. It's about 11 miles away, following the A96 road for the most direct route. The charming coastal town of Cullen is to the east, along the Moray coast. The most direct route follows the A98, offering scenic coastal views.
