St Giles' Cathedral, the High Kirk of Edinburgh, is in Edinburgh's Old Town on the historic Royal Mile. This stunning Cathedral, with its distinctive crown spire, history, and deep connections to Scottish royalty, remains one of Edinburgh's most visited landmarks. Founded in the 12th century, St Giles' Cathedral has been at the heart of Edinburgh for nearly 900 years.

St Giles' Cathedral has remained a site of national significance in Scotland. Most recently in 2022, following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, St Giles' Cathedral played a key role in Scotland's mourning process.  The procession carried her coffin from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to St Giles’ Cathedral, where it lay in state for 24 hours. During this time, the public gathered to pay their respects before being transported it to London for the state funeral.

Visitors to the Cathedral can admire its breathtaking architecture, beautiful stained glass windows, and important memorials. The Thistle Chapel is home to the Order of the Thistle, featuring intricate wood carvings and stunning stained glass. The John Knox Memorial honours the leader of the Scottish Reformation. The Stained Glass Windows are some of the finest stained glass in Scotland, including one dedicated to Robert Burns. Finally, the Central Nave and Vaulted Ceilings showcase the grandeur of medieval Scottish architecture.

Visitors can explore St Giles’ Cathedral year-round with free entry, though the cathedral encourages donations. It is located at the heart of the Royal Mile/High Street, making it an easy stop for those exploring Edinburgh's Old Town.

The Cathedral is open to all to experience its history, stunning architecture or worship. The official St Giles' website provides service times for those looking to Worship.
