The Kelpies stand as one of Scotland's most remarkable and striking landmarks. These impressive 30-meter-tall horse-head sculptures, crafted by artist Andy Scott, honour the nation's deep-rooted tradition of working horses. Inspired by mythical water spirits from Scottish folklore.

The Kelpies represent the strong draft horses that historically formed the backbone of Scotland's canals and industries. Officially revealed in 2014, they have quickly become a powerful symbol of Scotland's heritage and contemporary design.

The Forth and Clyde Canal pass by The Kelpies. This historic canal links the Firth of Forth to the Firth of Clyde and played a significant role in Scotland's industrial past.

Andy Scott used his creative vision to bring them to life through artistic flair and state-of-the-art engineering. Each sculpture weighs over 300 tons and is made from stainless steel bolstered by a robust steel framework.

The glistening surface reflects the ever-changing Scottish skies. Where the Kelpies seem to come to life at various times throughout the day. The meticulous attention to detail is astounding, and visitors can admire the intricate craftsmanship up close. Guided tours are available and allow you to enter these towering figures.

Xplore Helix Park

The Kelpies serve as the focal point of Helix Park in Falkirk, which offers a variety of activities for visitors. Helix Park covers some 350 hectares, with picturesque walking and cycling paths along the canals and through the Park.

Families can make the most of the adventure play park for kids and picnic areas, while the lagoon presents chances for kayaking and paddleboarding.

The visitor centre near The Kelpies provides further insight into their creation. The broader Helix project, complete with a café, restrooms, and a gift shop, allows you to enjoy lunch with views towards the canals and The Kelpies. At night, colorful lights illuminate The Kelpies, creating a breathtaking display.

Reaching The Kelpies is simple, thanks to excellent transport links from major cities such as Edinburgh, Stirling, and Glasgow. Falkirk is well-connected by train, and Helix Park is just a short walk from both Falkirk High and Falkirk Grahamston stations.

Is entry to the Kelpies Free

While entry to The Kelpies is free, those arriving by car should anticipate parking fees at The Kelpies Main Park next to the visitor centre, varying rates depending on the season.

Free parking is available at Helix Car Park, located at the entrance to Helix Park, though it's a much longer walk to the Kelpies.

A trip to The Kelpies and Helix Park is an excellent way to spend a few hours. Enjoy the marvel of these breathtaking sculptures or the beauty of the illuminated Kelpies at night, a must-visit for anyone journeying through Scotland.
