1. Ben Nevis – The UK's Highest Peak

Towering at 1,345 meters, Ben Nevis is a magnet for those visiting Fort William, the outdoor capital of the UK. The most popular route for those looking to climb Ben Nevis is the Mountain Path, also known as the Tourist Route or Pony Track, starting at the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre. If climbing Ben Nevis isn't for you, you can enjoy stunning mountain views around Fort William.

2. Nevis Range Mountain Gondola

Experience the mountain gondola on Aonach Mòr, which transports visitors to 650 meters up the eighth-highest mountain in Britain. The gondola now offers year-round access to panoramic views of the Scottish Highlands, walking trails, and the Snowgoose Restaurant & Bar at the top station. 

3. The Jacobite Steam Train

Described as one of the most remarkable railway journeys in the world, The Jacobite Steam Train is an 84-mile round trip from Fort William to Mallaig. Passengers are treated to stunning views of mountains, lochs, and the iconic 21-arched Glenfinnan Viaduct, famously featured in the Harry Potter films. The train operates from April to October, providing a nostalgic and scenic experience through the heart of the Highlands.

4. West Highland Way Finish Line

One of Scotland's most popular long-distance walks finishes in the centre of Fort William, stretching 96 miles from Milngavie in Glasgow to Fort William and from the serene shores of Loch Lomond to the rugged wilderness of Rannoch Moor, culminating at the foot of Ben Nevis. Whether you're up for the entire journey or just a segment, it's a rewarding experience for hikers of all levels. 

5. The Great Glen Way and Caledonian Canal

 The Great Glen Way is one of Scotland's most iconic long-distance walks from Fort William to Inverness through some of the Highlands' most breathtaking landscapes.

This 79-mile route leads you along the Caledonian Canal, passing Neptune's Staircse, before reaching the tranquil shores of Loch Lochy and Loch Oich. The route then continues along the western banks of Loch Ness. Along the path, you will visit some charming villages like Fort Augustus, Invermoriston, and Drumnadrochit.

6. Visit Fort Augustus & Loch Ness

At the southern tip of Loch Ness, Fort Augustus is a charming village where the Caledonian Canal meets Loch Ness. Visitors can enjoy watching boats navigate the canal's lock system and enjoy the walking and cycling paths along the canal. Boat tours of Loch Ness are available from Fort Augustus, where you can try to spot the Loch Ness Monster.

7. West Highland Museum

The West Highland Museum is located in Fort William's Cameron Square. This independent museum is renowned for its extensive Jacobite collection, featuring artefacts like Bonnie Prince Charlie's secret portrait and death mask. Visitors can explore exhibits on Highland life, archaeology, and military history, including World War II Commandos displays. The museum also houses unique items such as Rob Roy's sporran. Entry is free, with donations welcomed.

8. Ben Nevis Distillery

Established in 1825 by 'Long John' McDonald, Ben Nevis Distillery is one of Scotland's oldest licensed distilleries at the foot of Britain's highest mountain. Visitors can explore 'The Legend of the Dew of Ben Nevis' Visitor Centre, which ishoused in a historic warehouse. Tours include guided walks through the production areas and whisky tasting. The shop provides a selection of whiskies and souvenirs.

9. Walk the Stella Falls and Nevis Gorge

The walk to Steall Falls is one of Scotland's finest short walks. Taking you through the dramatic Nevis Gorge. Once through the gorge, walkers see the breathtaking sight of Steall Falls. Standing at 120-metre (393 ft). The second-highest waterfall in Scotland.

10. Golf

Fort William Golf Club is set against the backdrop of Ben Nevis, offering both challenging play and breathtaking scenery. The Dragon's Tooth Golf Course in Ballahulish is a short drive away and one of Scotland's most enjoyable 9-hole courses.
